The church dedicated to Apostles Peter and Paul (Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo) is located in the village of Dervio facing the shores of Lake Como. The parish dates back to the 11th century, even if the primitive construction could date as far back as the 6th century. The current building, of Romanesque era, has a basilica made up of three naves and five bays, with three asps. The altar of the Holy Mother of the Rosary (Madonna del Rosario) was renovated around 1665, and a baptistery was installed as well as a confessional – both in black marble.
The engraved, gilded wooden pulpit is of considerable value and interest; it is very similar to the one found in the church of Saint James (chiesa di San Giacomo) in Bellagio. To the sides are two large canvases from the 1600s, work of painters from Bergamo, Giovanni and Francesco Cavagna. The paintings portray the martyrdom of Saint Peter and the conversion of Saint Paul.
In 1670 and 1672 the Rubini and De Magni families received permission from the Curia, to be buried in the church. They were given simple tombstones which are still visible in the side naves. The statue of the Holy Mother and Child (Madonna col bambino) can to be traced back to the 16th century. Three are still traces of the architects and of the three double-splayed single-lancet windows outside of the church; the date 1613 is engraved in the raising. The Romanesque motifs can still be seen in the bell tower and the belfry.
