The Rotary Path: A Manzonian Trek Between Nature and History
A tour inspired by Manzoni's *The Betrothed*
Established and recently restored by the Rotary Club of Lecco, this scenic path winds through the lower and middle slopes of Mount Resegone and Mount Magnodeno. The trail offers a peaceful journey through diverse natural landscapes, following a route that was recently upgraded to ensure a high-quality hiking experience. Inspired by the world of Alessandro Manzoni, the full itinerary begins at the presumed home of Lucia in Lecco and concludes at the historic Rocca dell’Innominato (Fortress of the Unnamed) above Vercurago. For those seeking the most picturesque experience, we highly recommend the section from Versasio to the Fortress, especially during the cooler months of spring and autumn.
The Manzoni Trail
As you explore these beautiful landscapes, we kindly ask for your respect and mindfulness toward the local environment. Let’s preserve the wisdom of nature by avoiding behaviors that could harm its delicate balance. To reach the trailhead, take the Line 5 bus from Lecco to the Piani d’Erna cable car station. From the parking lot, head down behind the building following the marked signs toward the paved road. Turn right and, after a few meters, take the descending carriage road on your right (marked by descriptive arrows). Following the trail signs, you will enjoy a tranquil, substantially level traverse. The trek to the Fortress takes approximately 4 hours. From there, you can descend to Vercurago and then to Chiuso in about 20 minutes, where you can catch the Line 1 bus back to Lecco.
